4K Ultra HD video transcoding
Powered by a hardware-accelerated transcoding engine, DS216play supports H.264/H.265 1080p and H.265 4K codecs, allows you to transcode 4K videos to 1080p, making them suitable for all screens and bandwidths whether they are local media players or remote mobile devices. In addition, you can also stream original 4K resolution videos to your multimedia player or 4K TV within a local network environment. 4K transcoding is available only through Synology’s Video Station, DS video, Media Server.

DS216play comes with a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU and 1GB RAM, delivering an average 107 MB/s reading and 91 MB/s writing speed under RAID 1 configuration in a Windows® environment.1 The built-in floating-point unit enhances the overall capability of the main CPU and is particularly advantageous in speeding up thumbnail creations when uploading a large amount of photos or videos.

USB 3.0 accelerates transfer rates
DS216play comes with a USB 3.0 port, allowing you to connect to an external storage devices with fast and efficient file transfer speed and spend less time transferring media content or personal files in or out of the NAS.

You can even share files and folders with others by simply sending a link. Files can be reached on mobile devices via the companion mobile app DS file. Synology DS216play can serve as a centralized backup target. Whether you are a Windows or Mac user, you can back up everything on your computer directly to Synology NAS using Cloud Station Backup. Whenever you modify a file, the changes are backed up to DS216play automatically. Mac users also enjoy native Apple® Time Machine support. You can also back up data from your DS216play to another DiskStation, rsync servers, external drives, or even Amazon® S3, Glacier cloud service, Microsoft Azure, SFR, and hicloud. Synology Hyper Backup allows you to schedule backup tasks and restore the server to any particular point in time, while minimizing storage consumption and processing time by saving only the specific data block that has been changed between versions.

You also won’t worry about missing files with the Recycle Bin feature which is supported on AFP, CIFS, File Station, and WebDAV. All files deleted in a shared folder will be automatically moved into the Recycle Bin.
